Dear Membership,
I would like to thank all the community members and guests who attending this month’s meeting. We had a fun time and learned some new, beneficial information. We had over 30 people in attendance (on election day). Many of our members were working the polls. It was so exiting to see the many new faces and we expect to see you at our next meeting as we go on this journey together to improve our community.
Owen Franklin from the Promise Zone Initiative gave us important information on what the Promise Zone is and how it can benefit our community.
Cass Green from the People’s Emergency Center presented us with information on different programs they offer, and it was a lot of great things. I will be posting some of the information on our website at www.westbelmontcivic.org. One of the programs that seemed to get us excited was the BLOCK PARTY IN A BOX. Your block could win a block party in a box. Another wonderful program they have is The Center for Employment and Training. This program will run you through everything you need to get a job including resume writing, interviewing process and skills. There was also a Senior Companions program where you can earn money from being a companion (must be 60 or older). Many more programs were introduced to us. I will post some of them on our website.
I will be proposing at our next meeting to raise the number of people who may serve on our board. We wish to raise it from 5 to 7. After discussion with other board members we decided we needed to make this change in order for us to put into place the structure that we need to grow and accomplish our goals.
I also attended a two day workshop on Monday and Tuesday presented by the Promise Zone and HUD on Capacity Building: Organizational Development and Grant Writing. It was a lot of information in 2 full days of learning which will highly benefit the West Belmont Civic Association.
Some Dates to keep in mind:
